Our Mission
At Freyja Medical, our mission is to raise the standard of specialist skin care by combining expert dermatology, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient experience.
Founded in 2017 by dermatologists Dr James Dean and Dr Keli Thorsteinsson, Freyja Medical was created to provide patients with access to trusted, evidence-based skin care in a professional and welcoming environment.
Drawing on extensive NHS experience, we recognised the need for a clinic where patients could receive clear advice, accurate diagnosis, and personalised treatment without pressure, unrealistic promises, or unnecessary interventions.
Today, we provide comprehensive care for skin conditions, mole checks, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, skin surgery, and selected aesthetic treatments that support skin health and confidence.
As a CQC and HIW regulated service, we are committed to delivering safe, ethical, and high-quality care. Through continuous learning, clinical innovation, and a patient-first approach, we strive to help every patient achieve healthier skin and greater confidence in their care.
Our Core Values
Safety
Safety is the foundation of everything we do.
As a regulated healthcare provider registered with both the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), we maintain rigorous clinical standards across all areas of our practice.
Our team is led by experienced dermatology specialists with extensive NHS backgrounds, allowing us to provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in a safe and controlled environment.
Every recommendation is based on clinical need, individual circumstances, and established evidence. We take the time to understand your concerns, review your medical history, and ensure any proposed treatment is appropriate for you.
Whether managing a skin condition, assessing a mole, performing surgery, or providing aesthetic treatment, patient safety remains our highest priority.
Transparency
We believe patients deserve honest advice, clear communication, and realistic expectations.
Our role is not to sell treatments. Our role is to help you make informed decisions about your skin health based on expert clinical guidance.
We take a consultation-first approach, allowing us to understand your concerns, explain the available options, and discuss the likely benefits and limitations of treatment.
Where treatment is not necessary, we will tell you. Where a different option may be more appropriate, we will explain why.
By focusing on openness, integrity, and evidence-based recommendations, we build long-term relationships founded on trust rather than pressure or sales targets.
Education
We believe that informed patients make better decisions about their skin health.
Education forms an important part of every consultation. We take the time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, expected outcomes, and ongoing management strategies in clear and understandable terms.
Our clinicians draw on years of specialist dermatology experience and remain committed to continuous professional development, ensuring our advice reflects current evidence and best practice.
Whether you are seeking treatment for a skin condition, reassurance regarding a mole, or guidance on maintaining healthy skin, we aim to provide the knowledge and support needed to make confident decisions about your care.
Our goal is not simply to provide treatment, but to help patients better understand and manage their skin for the long term.

What is the difference between dermatology and aesthetic services?
Aesthetics and dermatology services are both branches of medicine that focus on skin health and appearance, but they have distinct focuses and treatments.
Dermatology primarily deals with diagnosing and treating medical conditions related to the skin, hair, and nails. This includes conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer, and infections. Dermatologists, as medical doctors, undergo extensive training to diagnose and treat skin conditions using medications, topical treatments, surgeries, and other interventions.
On the other hand, aesthetics, often referred to as cosmetic dermatology, focuses on enhancing the appearance of the skin, rather than treating medical conditions. Aesthetic services may include treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser therapy for hair removal or skin rejuvenation, and microneedling. These treatments aim to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, uneven skin tone, scars, and other signs of ageing or skin damage.
At Freyja Medical, we offer both dermatology and aesthetics services, providing comprehensive care to address both medical concerns and aesthetic goals.
How do I know what treatment is right for me?
Determining the right treatment involves considering your skin concerns, medical history, aesthetic goals, and advice from a qualified practitioner.
At Freyja Medical, your consultation includes an open discussion of these factors with a dermatologist or aesthetic practitioner.
Through a comprehensive skin assessment, tailored treatment options are recommended based on your preferences, lifestyle, and budget.
Realistic expectations and post-treatment care instructions are discussed, and our practitioners are available to address any doubts or uncertainties.

Moreover, our team comprises highly skilled and qualified practitioners, with roots deeply embedded in the NHS and years of experience in the aesthetics industry.
Before any treatment, we conduct thorough consultations to assess your skin and perform necessary medical checks to ensure there are no contradictions.

Rest assured, your safety and well-being are our top priorities at Freyja Medical.
