When you visit Freyja Medical for your initial consultation, you will be assessed by one of the medical team, whose first goal is to truly understand your motivation for seeking advice.
The consultation process includes taking a thorough medical history and an examination of your skin including a mole-check using advanced dermoscopy of the areas to be treated. Any contra-indications to specific treatments will be considered. You will be provided with written information, including likely benefits, cost and possible risks and downtime.
Wonderful staff, wonderful service, have already booked my next treatment. Highly recommend.
Dr. James Dean and Dr. Keli Thorsteinsson co-founded Freyja Medical in 2017 and since have been committed to the well-being and safety of their clients as well as providing top quality aesthetic practices.
An experienced skin specialist doctor and author of the book on medical aesthetics ‘More Than Skin Deep’, Dr James Dean has helped thousands of people both in his NHS dermatology work and in over a decade of aesthetic medical practice.
Having co-founded Freyja Medical Clinic in 2017 together with Dr Thorsteinsson, they developed their unique methodology to help with natural result facial aesthetics. He finds particular satisfaction (and great results!) when combining all the best elements of his experience in dermatology with the latest developments in cosmetic medicine. Dr Dean is passionate about supporting the training of the next generation of skin doctors with his Honorary Tutor role at Cardiff University on the postgraduate dermatology course, as well as continuing his clinical practice in the NHS.
Dr Thorsteinsson is a specialist in dermatology, skin cancer diagnosis, reconstructive surgery, and aesthetic medicine. He has successfully carried out many thousands of skin procedures on NHS and private patients over the past decade.
He has written educational material for various medical publications including the British Medical Journal Learning and undertaken teaching for the Cardiff Diploma in Practical Dermatology and medical students at Keele University. He is co-founder and director of the Freyja Medical Clinic in Wrexham. Originally from Iceland, he enjoys outdoor pursuits including skiing, diving, mountain biking, and motorcycling. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Shropshire.
Clare has over 20 years of nursing experience and has spent many of these years working in the field of Cancer Care and community care. She worked predominantly in the city of Edinburgh but it was during her time working in the Middle East that she developed an interest in Aesthetics Nursing which has developed into a true passion.
She has trained in many aspects of aesthetics since relocating to Cheshire in 2012 and is continually training to enable her to offer the most up to date products and practices available.
She is kept busy with 2 young boys and loves meeting up with friends and family as well as trying to squeeze in some running and cycling!
Hi, I'm Hattie! I've recently joined the team at Freyja medical as an Aesthetic therapist but I've worked in the skincare and beauty industry for over 7 years and can't imagine ever wanting to do anything else. When I make you feel great and look amazing it just makes me so satisfied!
Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends and family which normally includes endless calories in the form of food and wine! On Sundays you'll find me binge watching netflix or playing with the 3 dogs, Spud, Pepsi and Poppy. I look forward to going to work every day and seeing all of the clients at Freyja Wrexham and Freyja Nantiwch!
I’m Nicki, Dr Dean and Dr Thorsteinsson’s Personal Assistant which basically means I get to boss them around! I have worked in the medical industry for 20+ years in various administrative roles. I love my job and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Outside work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, which usually involves food, as eating is my favourite hobby! As a family, we enjoy walking our dog and travelling.
I am very loyal, honest and hard-working. I believe in treating people how you would want to be treated yourself and I always try to see the best in people.
Hi I'm Catherine, I started at Freyja in Feb 2018 as reception cover on a Saturday. I enjoyed the role so much that I quit my day job of 16 years in the civil service - to work full-time at Freyja. My role is front-of-house/reception/barista and generally making all our lovely customers welcome.
In my previous roles, a was Assistant Manager at Lunn Poly and before that I completed my BA (Hons) degree in Swansea in Conservation and Planning. I enjoy spin classes, football (watching not playing), planning my next holiday, reading, and a glass of Malbec.
Hi, I’m Lauren, and I am the Client care and Marketing Assistant here at Freyja.
I am a bubbly, fun-loving person who likes to laugh at pretty much everything, and I don’t like taking life too seriously. When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my family, walking and biking.
I am a mum to one daughter, step mum to another (god help with two girls) and I am a fur-baby mum to a cocker spaniel Rosie - The favourite (just don’t tell the others).
Hi, I’m Heidi and I’m excited to be part of the Freyja team as a Clinic Administrator. Before joining Freyja I spent 11 years experiencing both sales and purchase ledger departments at a large local agricultural company. Most of my work takes place in the back office with the accounts side but I do escape every so often to help out on reception! At home, I’m kept busy with my 9-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son with crafts and outdoor activities. We love to get out walking our chocolate Labrador Freddie. My other loves include good food and wine. To keep healthy, I love to go for a good run and participate in organised local events.
Freyja is regulated by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) and our doctors by the General Medical Council, which produces specific guidance on cosmetic interventions. The Clinic is required by law to adhere to the regulations laid down by these government bodies. The clinic scored 100% in the latest inspections by HIW in 2019
Our aim in consulting with patients is to provide no pressure or force any commitment to treatment. We want to educate and inform anyone who comes to Freyja Medical. We rarely ever carry out treatments on the day of your initial assessment. This is so you can consider your options and cost carefully, and to help you make sure you can plan any downtime.
