Dr Keli Thorsteinsson is the Co-Founder and Director of Freyja Medical, which he established in 2017 alongside fellow dermatologist Dr James Dean. Together, they set out to create a clinic that delivers the very best in dermatology and aesthetic medicine to patients across North Wales, Cheshire, and beyond.
A Specialist in Skin Health
Dr Thorsteinsson is an experienced Consultant Dermatologist with decades of medical expertise behind him. His main clinical interests lie in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, where he is highly skilled in skin surgery. However, he also enjoys treating the full range of skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, acne, and rashes.
He is passionate about helping patients achieve the best outcomes, combining advanced dermatological knowledge with a caring, down-to-earth approach.
Education and Experience
Originally from Iceland, Dr Thorsteinsson graduated in medicine from the University of Iceland Medical School in 1995. After completing his internship, he gained full registration in 1996 before moving to the UK to pursue specialist training.
His early career included experience across hospital medicine, anaesthetics, surgery, and orthopaedics, followed by a period in general practice. This gave him a strong foundation in patient care before deciding to retrain in dermatology between 2009 and 2013.
Since then, he has worked full-time in both NHS and private dermatology practice. His roles have included more than a decade at St Michael’s Clinic, Shrewsbury, and ongoing work within the NHS as a Locum Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. In 2017, he co-founded Freyja Medical, where he continues to see patients across a wide range of medical and aesthetic dermatology services.

Dr Thorsteinsson believes that patients deserve the highest standards of care, whether they come to see him for a mole check, the treatment of a chronic skin condition, or surgery for skin cancer. His calm and reassuring manner helps patients feel at ease, while his experience ensures they are in safe hands.
He takes great pride in bringing hospital-level dermatology expertise into a welcoming, patient-friendly clinic environment.
Outside the Clinic
Away from medicine, Dr Thorsteinsson lives in Shrewsbury with his wife and two daughters. He is a keen sportsman, with hobbies including skiing, cycling, and golf – passions that reflect his active and energetic nature.
