At Freyja Medical, we empower our patients with knowledge about their skin conditions, including Seborrhoeic Keratoses, also known as seborrhoeic warts. These common, benign skin growths, often referred to as “ageing warts,” appear mainly in middle age or later. They can range in color from light tan to black and usually have a round or oval shape. With a waxy, scaly, or slightly elevated appearance, you can find them anywhere on the body, except the palms and soles.

Although Seborrhoeic Keratoses are harmless and typically don’t need treatment, many people opt for removal due to cosmetic preferences or irritation. At Freyja Medical, we make removal easy and safe with two effective methods: cryotherapy and shave curettage.

Cryotherapy

This method works best for small, thin Seborrhoeic Keratoses. We apply liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy the growths quickly, often in just a few minutes. Over a few days to weeks, the treated areas will crust over and fall off, revealing healthy skin beneath.

Shave Curettage

We recommend this method for thicker growths. Our dermatologists numb the area with a local anesthetic before gently shaving the growth with a surgical instrument. This quick procedure leaves minimal scarring.

Our experienced dermatologists, Dr James Dean and Dr Keli Thorsteinsson, will guide you through the removal process, ensuring your comfort and satisfaction. We aim to alleviate any concerns about skin growths by providing simple and effective solutions.
