Additional Information About Skin Surgery & Mole Removal

Our skin doctors will discuss the available treatment options with you during your consultation, depending on the location and appearance of the moles.

Cryotherapy

We use cold treatment to remove or ‘freeze’ the mole. This method is effective for minor skin blemishes and warts but may be less suitable for larger lesions.

Skin Lesion & Mole Removal – Shave excision

We can remove some types of moles from the face and body using a shave removal technique. This involves using a special blade to remove the mole and cauterizing the base. We numb the treatment area with anesthesia, and a small pink mark may remain where the mole was, but it should fade over time.

Skin Lesion & Mole Removal – Excision

Excision mole removal involves the complete removal of the mole by cutting it out with a scalpel, along with a small area of surrounding healthy tissue. We apply local anesthesia to the area, remove the mole, and a small section of normal skin. Afterward, we stitch up the wound to close it.

What Do We Treat?

We design our skin surgery procedures to address a range of concerns, including the removal of moles, seborrhoeic keratosis, and skin tags, as well as more complex treatments to address skin cancers, cysts, lipomas, and other skin growths.

Additionally, we provide treatment for scars and other cosmetic concerns to help you achieve a smooth and even complexion.

We advise scheduling a consultation with our experienced surgeons to discuss your options.

What type of skin problems can you remove?

Our dermatology doctors, with many years of NHS surgical practice, are highly experienced skin surgeons. As such, our surgeons can address a wide range of problems. Here are some examples:

  • Skin Cancers
  • Moles
  • Skin tags
  • Skin cysts
  • Warts
  • Lipomas (fatty lumps)
  • and much more…
Does mole removal hurt?

When we remove moles and skin lesions, we thoroughly clean the area and use a local anaesthetic to ensure that the procedure itself is painless.

How long does it take to recover from skin surgery?

The recovery time for skin surgery procedures can vary depending on the individual and the procedure performed.

In general, you can expect to resume your normal activities within a few days, although you may need to avoid certain activities for a period of time.

Like any medical procedure, skin surgery carries some risks, including infection, scarring, and bleeding.

However, these risks are usually minimal and can be managed with appropriate care and follow-up.

Is it safe to have my mole removed at Freyja Medical?

Our doctors have developed a vast amount of experience in skin surgery and dermatology diagnosis over their many years of service to the NHS. Additionally, the NHS has regularly requested our assistance in seeing patients to reduce waiting list times. We are regulated by the same bodies as NHS hospitals, including Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and the Care Quality Commission.

I have moles that I know are harmless but I want removed for cosmetic purposes. Can you help?

Absolutely! Unlike the NHS, who only remove moles if they are potentially dangerous, we are accustomed to removing moles for cosmetic reasons. Your doctor will discuss this in detail with you during your initial consultation.

How do I know which type of mole removal surgery is right for me?

During your consultation with our skin specialist doctors, we will assess your mole and recommend the right treatment option for you. This recommendation will depend on the medical assessment and location of the mole.

I have several moles, can you remove more than one at a time?

Yes. During your initial consultation, your doctor can perform a full assessment of all your moles and provide guidance on their removal. You will also receive full advice on the costs involved in your treatment, including any histology (microscopic skin cell examination) costs.
