Dr James Dean is the Co-Founder and Director of Freyja Medical, which he established in October 2017 alongside fellow dermatologist Dr Keli Thorsteinsson. Together, they created a clinic that brings the highest standards of dermatology and aesthetic medicine to North Wales, Cheshire, and beyond.
A Specialist in Skin Health
Dr Dean has been working as a Dermatologist in the NHS since 2016, and is currently a Locum Consultant Dermatologist at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. His expertise covers a wide range of dermatological conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, acne, and the assessment and treatment of skin lesions. He also carries out skin surgery, combining technical skill with a reassuring, patient-focused manner.
Passionate about progress in dermatology, Dr Dean keeps up to date with the latest treatments and innovations, ensuring patients benefit from safe and effective care.
Education and Experience
Dr Dean studied medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, qualifying as a doctor in 2003. Since then, he has achieved multiple postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma in Dermatology with Distinction from Cardiff University and MRCP(UK) from The Royal College of Physicians.
Before specialising fully in dermatology, Dr Dean worked as a GP partner, giving him a strong foundation in patient-centred medicine. His dermatology career has included posts at St Michael’s Clinic, Shrewsbury, before going on to establish Freyja Medical, which he continues to lead alongside his NHS role.

Outside the Clinic
Beyond his medical career, Dr Dean values time with his family and is kept busy by his two dogs and two cats. His down-to-earth nature and warmth are reflected in the way he cares for his patients at Freyja Medical.
