A Consultant Dermatologist with National Recognition
Dr Jerrom has been an NHS Consultant Dermatologist since 2020, working across the East and West Midlands. He completed his specialist dermatology training within the West Midlands Deanery, where he was awarded West Midlands Dermatology Trainee of the Year in 2019 in recognition of his contributions to clinical care, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement.
Today, he holds a substantive Consultant Dermatologist position with Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, based at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, New Cross Hospital. He also works as a Consultant Dermatologist within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, bringing his expertise to patients across North Wales.
Throughout his consultant career, Dr Jerrom has played a leading role in improving dermatology and skin surgery services. He co-founded the Mohs Surgery Unit at New Cross Hospital and previously led significant service developments in Leicester, helping to modernise facilities, improve patient access, and reduce waiting times.
Specialist Expertise in Skin Cancer and Skin Surgery
Dr Jerrom specialises in the assessment and management of skin lesions and skin cancer, with particular expertise in complex facial surgery and reconstruction.
Following completion of his dermatology training, he undertook a dedicated post-CCT fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals. He is now a fully accredited Mohs Surgeon with the British Society for Dermatological Surgery (BSDS), placing him amongst a select group of dermatologists in the UK with advanced training in this highly specialised technique.
His breadth of experience allows him to confidently manage both straightforward and highly complex surgical cases.
A Passion for Precision and Outstanding Outcomes
What Dr Jerrom enjoys most about dermatological surgery is the ability to guide patients through every stage of their treatment.
In his NHS Mohs practice, this involves assessing the lesion, making the diagnosis, performing the surgery, reviewing the histology under the microscope, reconstructing the surgical site, and providing follow-up care. This continuity allows patients to receive consistent, expert care from a single specialist throughout their treatment journey.
While Mohs surgery itself is not currently available at Freyja Medical, Dr Jerrom brings the same meticulous approach to every procedure he performs. At Freyja, he offers skin lesion assessment, skin cancer surgery, skin excisions, and reconstructive procedures using conventional histological processing techniques.
Patients and colleagues often describe him as a perfectionist. Whether treating a straightforward skin lesion or performing a more complex reconstruction, he focuses on achieving the best possible cosmetic and functional outcome without ever compromising on safety or quality.
Leadership Within UK Dermatology
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Jerrom plays an active role in shaping dermatological surgery nationally.
He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the British Society for Dermatological Surgery, contributing to the development of national guidance, educational resources, training initiatives, and future priorities for the specialty.
He has also:
- Served as Head Judge for the national Quality in Care Dermatology Awards programme
- Contributed to national dermatology guidelines
- Sat on multiple national committees and working groups
- Helped develop quality improvement initiatives within dermatology services
His commitment to advancing standards within the specialty reflects his wider passion for delivering the very best care to patients.
Teaching, Research and Education
Education has always been an important part of Dr Jerrom’s career.
He regularly teaches on national dermatological surgery courses and acts as faculty for British Society for Dermatological Surgery educational events. He is also an Anatomy Demonstrator at the University of Nottingham, teaching advanced head and neck anatomy to medical professionals.
In addition, he has presented at both national and international conferences, published multiple peer-reviewed papers, and contributed to the wider dermatology literature.
His ongoing involvement in teaching and research ensures he remains at the forefront of developments in skin cancer diagnosis, dermatological surgery, and patient care.
Committed to Patients
Dr Jerrom believes that every patient deserves clear information, honest guidance, and enough time to fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
He takes pride in helping patients make informed decisions by discussing all available options and tailoring recommendations to their individual circumstances. His goal is to ensure patients feel confident, prepared, and supported throughout their treatment.
By combining specialist expertise with a thoughtful and personalised approach, he aims to deliver not only excellent clinical outcomes but also an outstanding patient experience.
Outside the Clinic
Outside of work, Dr Jerrom enjoys making the most of the outdoors and pursuing a variety of interests.
He is a keen traveller and particularly enjoys visiting world-class scuba diving destinations, exploring marine life with his partner. When on dry land, he enjoys hiking, wildlife spotting, and bird watching.
Sport also plays a big part in his life. He follows football closely and enjoys staying active through tennis, football, golf, swimming, and regular gym training.
