What’s the difference between Botox and Fillers?
It’s important to understand how Botox & dermal fillers are different, what they are designed to achieve, and how they work.
Whatever treatment is chosen in the end, they both work to refresh skin and maintain a natural, youthful appearance when used correctly.
Botox works to relax the muscles that cause lines, reducing the movement to help reduce their appearance. Used consistently over time, it can actually train the muscles to stay relaxed, softening noticeable wrinkles and helping to prevent new ones from forming.
Fillers work in a completely different way to treat different kinds of facial ageing.
Fillers are primarily designed to treat static wrinkles & lines that are visible even when the face is relaxed. They do this with a supporting and volumising effect.

Botox works by relaxing muscles that cause lines to form. This causes the lines to soften and eventually disappear. However, Botox can’t lift or provide volume or structure to an ageing face. That’s where dermal fillers come in. Click to read more…
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand name for a type of purified protein that is injected into the muscles to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Other brands licensed in the UK are Azzalure and Bocouture.
How long does treatment with Botox last?
The benefits of Botox initially last 3-4 months, but after a few treatments they tend to last longer and the repeat treatment time can stretch out to every 6-8 months in a large number of people.
Is Botox safe?
Botox is considered safe when administered by a licensed and experienced professional. It has been approved by the MHRA in the UK and the FDA in America for cosmetic use and has a long track record of safety.
Will I have a frozen face?!
Absolutely not!
The ‘frozen’ look that many associate with Botox injections in the past should not be the aim. We want to target small specific muscles that are responsible for unwanted lines and wrinkles only.
Botox injection is a technique-sensitive treatment. The procedure will deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. So you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines. No one should be able to tell you’ve had anything done.
People worry about looking ‘frozen’ or fake when they’re considering treatment with Botox. The thing is, when you see a true expert for your treatment, the results speak for themselves. A more relaxed, fresher appearance while still looking like you
Where can Botox be used?
The most common sites to have Botox injections are between the brows where we get lines when we frown, the crow’s feet (laughter lines) and the horizontal lines across our forehead that get worse when we raise our eyebrows.
Many practitioners stick to these ‘3 areas’ – they are so common that mostly you will see price lists putting these 3 areas down as standard treatments. When you have more experience and skill, however, the toxin can be used in many more interesting and pleasing ways to produce fantastic, but subtle, results.
The Botox can be placed precisely to achieve a brow lift when the eyebrows sit low over the eyes or you need brow shaping. Smoker’s lines around the mouth can be softened if the injector is experienced enough to avoid affecting the muscles involved in smiling. A downward turn of the corners of the mouth can be corrected with a gentle relaxation of a specific muscle to help with a ‘frowning’ look. Even a stringy-looking neck can be improved with Botox by treating those thick cord-like bands that can form arising from the platysma muscle. Treatment here can give us a subtle lift to the lower face as the muscle pulling downwards is relaxed.
This list is by no means exhaustive!
How does Botox work?
Botulinum Toxin, when injected into a muscle, temporarily relaxes it by blocking nerve impulses. As the nerve impulses are blocked the muscle is temporarily unable to contract as much which means that active wrinkles are relaxed. This gives the overlying skin a softer, smoother appearance.
Is Botox painful?
The injections are typically well-tolerated and do not require any anesthesia or downtime. Some patients may experience mild discomfort or a slight pinching sensation during the injection.
Are there any side effects from Botox?
The most common side effects of Botox include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Rarely, more serious side effects may occur, but these are usually temporary and subside within a few days.
How often do I need to come in for Botox treatments?
The frequency of Botox treatments can vary depending on the individual and the treatment area. Most patients choose to have Botox treatments every three to four months to maintain their results.
